Tide of Pain
the tide of pain
rises
pulled
to the moon
of Your Remembrance
wave after wave
lifting
from the ocean bed
of my heart
searching, seeking, failing
falling
soaked up
at the shore
of Your absence
just when i think:
i can’t endure it!
that without You,
the next breath is impossible
the pain retreats;
i am distracted
by the sun
the day and what it brings
duties beckon
and shopkeepers ask:
how much of this
will you need today?
for a while
i forget heartache
i become of this world
i count the change,
laugh at a joke
fold sheets neatly,
place them in cupboards
until somewhere
a window opens
soundlessly
the breeze steals in
sweet and heady
with Your fragrance
and i am struck again.
hard!
right in the middle
of my chest
each time
the blow is as new
as if you parted
in that instant
left the whole world a void
where nothing but
my ache for You
stares back at me
