Orchestra of Rain

the orchestra of rain
is liquid bursts of sound
blooming in the sky
exploding on the ground

the rolling of thunder
is armies of clouds
some to the north
some to the east
firing muffled cannon
in low, rounded growls
soft and fluffy like the clouds

no casualties in this war
no prisoners taken
only rumbles exchanged
and water released

the tiny frenzied tapping
of liquid sparkles
against leaves,
taut in their effort to lift
drink full from the sky

in the shadow
of louder sounds
insistent, sharp and clear
of thin narrow river
lines of water from the roof
crashing against porch tiles
