Today I Am A Grasshopper

today i am a grasshopper
sitting idly in the sun
without care for later
for work
or for use

where are you, friend?
are you an ant today
like we are
almost every day?

working tirelessly
to do tasks
that pile up faster
than we can ever
hope to finish

take off the ant armour
there…
now your limbs are free!
now your eyes can see:

beyond the wall of tasks
surrounding you like a prison
there is a garden
with a pond and trees

a lizard walks there
aimlessly

birds hop and twitter
for no reason at all

and the idle
heedless grasshopper
sits in the sun
ant-armour abandoned
at the altar of Now

let’s give her ours
and keep her company
