Single Rose

You planted a seed
with the light of Your being
in the desolate landscape
of my heart
and brought to life
a world
within a world

a garden
where a single rose blooms
with delicate petals
like dragonfly wings
the colour of sun-shot rubies
full of rain
bursting
with the red of my blood

this single,
singular rose
grows
drenching the world
soaking me
with its jewel hues
its perfume of prayer

unhooking,
stitch by stitch
the seams
that hold me together
a-part from You

this rose,
its unraveling pain
above my heart
at the base of my throat
is You

how could i live without it?
