Monsoon Winds

 

monsoon winds

charge in from the sea

enormous gusts

evoking fierce,

crashing waves

of the ocean

a chameleon

thinking itself alone, safe

stands erect

almost indignant

in the middle of the garden

still, very still

then suddenly darts for food

bougainvillea branches

drape whitewashed compound walls

in blazing fuscia, pink and red

set against chlorophyll green

of the multitude of leaves

swaying madly

drunk on the madness

of the wind

birds twitter

sing praise

in notes

heart-breakingly sweet
