Loss And Gain

i was never enriched 
from taking 
by force or stealth

i was enriched
by giving to give away 

i never lost 
when i submitted 
to dispossession 

because the Friend 
turned to abundance
all such deprivation

when i understood this 
loss and gain 
became the same

neither did i covet gain 
nor did i fear losing
ever again

i fear only 
the loss 
of the Friend 
and His pleasure

for in truth
that is 
the only loss
there can be
