Compassion

as i write
you speak

your pain
is in my body

your tears flow out
through me

how can i say
we are separate
that you are you
not me?

i suffer
as you suffer
and hold you
as you shrink
in horror
of yourself

then heal
as you heal

i know
all your hateful acts
and appetites

and love you still
love you more

what else could Love do?
what else could Love be?
