You Want To Be A Lover

yesterday i was complaining 
to the Friend, saying:

why have you made 
this path so difficult
the journey through the soul 
so full of darkness
it’s almost impossible to bear?

to which He replied:
how would you become
fully human
unless you experienced 
the intolerable pain and vileness 
that you carry in your soul?

how thin and brittle
would be 
your compassion
your acceptance
if you hadn’t learnt 
to embrace
the unbearable parts
of your own self
that shatter your delusion
of being blameless
in a doomed world?

in a flash
you would judge
and condemn others
for sins 
you believe 
you yourself are above

you say 
you want to be a lover

how can you be a Lover
unless you love
what the world believes
is irredeemable
 unforgivable and 
unlovable?
