Wild Thing

you are a wild thing

beautiful

and free

like the soft receptacle

of your mouth

and the delicate tips

of your fingers

your fangs

and claws

are forged

with love,

not malice

someone told you

the story of this

and not-this

you believed

you were this

not that,

learnt shame

and freezing terror

you believed

you had no choice

but to become

an alien

caged being

living in pain

and in fear

read that story

once again

read each word

carefully, lovingly

be ruthless in your scrutiny

be brutal in your honesty

root out the words

this

and not-this

because in truth

you really are:

both this

and not-this,

a wild, wonderful

every thing

beautiful

and free
